Wow! I can’t believe I have known my amazing girlfriend since 7th grade! So glad we are still friends and can enjoy time together with family over pizza and a few beers just for the ladies.

Green Room was the place of choice Saturday night. How can you go wrong? Good beer, great music, awesome crew, and puppies! My kind of local hangout. It doesn’t get better than this!

Wait, did I mention the good beer? Not only did we try the Green Room Zips Zythos hoppy ipa, we got to try the infamous White Devil (6.66% AVC). The White Devil was accompanied by this delightful description: “White Belgian IPA Cigar City lactose, wheat, rye, orange, and grapefruit peel” Any beer combined with Cigar City has two thumbs up from me.

Definitely check out the new beers @ Green Room. Beer love…guaranteed!

1/19/2013 – Crazy night…oyster shots, beer, and more beer!

This post is long overdue and needs much more explanation, but I am going to let you know which amazing beers we “the crew” tried that infamous Saturday night @ Engine 15 in Jax Beach. I will be leaving out the amazing pina colada coated with cinnamon and oyster shooters along with some pineapple concoctions that put a well rounded end to a much enjoyed evening!

Here is what was enjoyed…AVC % still needed along with detailed descriptions, but enjoy the list.

Green Room – Brown Ale

Unibroue – la fin du monde

Gaffel – Kolsch (good ole german beer)

Spaten – Ocktoberfest (my favorite – nice and smooth)

Lexington – Bourbon Ale (One my new favs – 9% avc I think…)

Day trip to Savannah: Moon River Brewing

Conversation with sister: Sister: “Do you want to take a day trip with me to Savannah to get some art supplies, etc.?” Me: “Of course, but can we eat at Moon River Brewing?”

Why not kill two birds with one stone? Have a great day trip to Savannah, cozy food, and a great beer! Hmm…what to choose? Any selection is a good selection at this cozy southern brewery. After sampling a few locally brewed beers, I decided on the Excalibur. Just the name of this beer says a lot.

Here are a few pictures of this beautiful red/amber beer along with how the brewery describes this fine brew. Enjoy the pics and imbibe on!

A lesson in beer:

Ever wonder what makes a lager a lager and an ale an ale?

According to about.com “The brewing processes of the two different kinds of beer – lager, cold and efficient; and ale, warm and complex – result in very different final products. Although both are beer, the two are as different as red and white wines. Lagers are clean, refreshing beers with typically light aroma and flavor. They are invariably served cold and can pair easily with a wide variety of food. Ales are complex, flavorful beers. Many are served closer to room temperature and contain rich aroma and flavor. Their complexity makes pairing a more selective, but highly rewarding, task.”

So who is an ale and who is a lager? Ales include Indian Pale Ale, Barley Wine, Pale Ale, Porter, Stouts and wheat beer. Lagers include Bock, Oktoberfest, and Pilsner.

Green Room or bust!

Last week my girlfriend Nicole and I paid a celebratory visit to the local Jax brewery called Green Room. What is Green Room you might ask? According to Wikipedia “In surfing, the green room is the inside of a barrel that is produced by a wave. This term was coined due to the color of light reflected into the barrel.” Great name for a beach side brewery if you ask me!

This small brewery had a plethora of beer brewed in-house along with some great local Florida beers. With it officially being winter in Florida, I went for the in house brewed Amber Ale brewed with fresh spruce (5.5 AVC). The bouquet of this beer instantly brought me back to thoughts of Colorado; drinking a beer by the outside fire pit, fresh snow on the ground, and crisp winter air with majestic mountains in the background.

Definitely check out Green Room this winter. You won’t be disappointed!

Running For Brews: Poe’s Tavern – Atlantic Beach

Running for Brews @ Poe’s Tavern:

What an awesome night! Even though it was slightly raining out, the troops pushed out! Over forty runners in total! I ran my fastest 5K yet. Yippee!

What better way to celebrate than with brews after the fun run! Poe’s Tavern has been a great host for the Running For Brews gang. Great location and fabulous peeps!

Alright, onto the beer talk! I must confess…my first beer was Yuengling lager! Just for you rookies, it is the oldest brewery in the US. Also, you can’t find this beer out west! I love my Colorado beer, but this beer is a great light beer that just hits the spot! The smooth flavor of  savory roasted caramel malt combined with cascade and cluster hops to finish it off. Yum!

Well, it was just going to be a one beer night until my new friend Nicole talked me into another. How could I resist? Of course I had to branch out and try a new brew. Second beer choice: Green Room Pablo Beach Ale (5% ABV). A subtle IPA described by the brewery as an American style pale ale. Darker than a lager and full of robust hops.  I look forward to visiting the no food, beer friendly Green Room in the near future! I have heard only good things!
